Just before spring ball began, Elijah Brooks was named the next running backs coach at Virginia Tech. The 2007 William and Mary graduate looks to make a big impact on the offense heading into the upcoming season.
Brooks is coming off of a successful four year stint under Mike Locksley as the running backs at the University of Maryland. Before his time with the Terps in the Big Ten, Brooks was the head coach at high school powerhouse, DeMatha Catholic High School just outside of Washington, D.C.
While at the helm of the DeMatha program, Brooks had the best eight year run in school history, leading the Stags to a 72-20 record, including four consecutive conference and state championships.
Probably most valuable to Virginia Tech, is Brook’s recruiting ties to the DMV. Having spent his entire career recruiting and coaching the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas, the connections that Brooks holds are a piece that the Hokies have been missing.
Brooks joins a team that has an improved running back room full of storylines. This past offseason Virginia Tech added junior transfer, Bhayshul Tuten, from North Carolina A&T. After missing most of last season due to injury junior tailback, Malachi Thomas, is back for the Hokies. Not to mention, the young depth at the position throughout.
Fans can watch Virginia Tech in action this Saturday at 3:00 PM during the spring game inside Lane Stadium. Admission is free with the gates opening at 1:00 PM.
